چکیده

In order to evaluate the phenotypic variation between natural population and cultured stocks of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus, 1758), the intraand inter-population differentiations were analyzed using biometric approach. Thus, eight morphological measurements were taken from 300 specimens collected from Ismailia Canal (AB) as natural population and two cultured stocks from Kafr El-Shaikh (KE) and Fayoum (FA) Governorates. All specimens collected at juvenile stage in first generation which reared in the under environment al conditions. The univariate (ANOVA) and multivariate analyses (principal component analysis, PCA, and discriminant function analysis, DFA) showed a low variability among populations. The morphometric pattern observed in 3 stocks of Nile tilapia reflects variation primarily along three axes. Together these components accounted 81.20% of observed variation. Three characters were selected by step-wise discriminant function analysis on morphometric data. This study shows the existence of morphological differentiations between subpopulations derived from a single gene pool that have been isolated in separated sites for several decades although bred in relatively similar environments.

Effect of reducing 3.2% dietary protein level on the growth performance and immunity of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with supplementation of multi amino acids

Reducing dietary protein content in fish feeds will reduce cost of production if growth performance can be maintained. In this study, we assessed the effects of reduced dietary protein content from 33.5% to 27.4% with ideal amino acids profile on the growth, immune parameters, intestinal microvilli length and total ammonia nitrogen discharge of tilapia. After 8 weeks of feeding, growth performa...

An experimental analysis of the effects of dietary lipid sources and feeding ration on the reproductive performance, egg and larval quality of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.)

This study investigates the effects of dietary lipid sources on the growth and reproductive performance of Nile tilapia over three consecutive spawnings. Fish were reared using three experimental diets, with the goal of replacing dietary fish oil with palm oil. Three experimental diets and a commercial   trout diet was used as the control. The effect of dietary lipid on the growth performance, ...

Production of genetically male tilapia through interspecific hybridization between Oreochromis niloticus and O. aureus

This study was conducted to produce a high percentage of genetically male tilapia through interspecific hybridization between Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus and Blue tilapia, O. aureus and evaluate sex ratio, productive performance and heterosis of the progeny produced. The results revealed that sex ratios of the progenies of (♀ O. aureus x ♂ O. niloticus) and (♀ O. niloticus x ♂ O. aureus...
